Our Platform

I'm running to represent Delaware's 29th District, which is a vibrant and diverse community. My campaign is based on four issues: worker's rights, mental health, education, and road safety. These are all very important to the health and prosperity of our district. I think that if we pay attention to these important issues, we can make our community stronger, healthier, and more fair for everyone.

Protecting Our Voting Rights

Protecting and expanding voting rights is essential to ensuring a healthy and inclusive democracy.

If elected I will:

  • Extend the voter registration deadline through Election Day, allowing more people to vote without unnecessary obstacles.

  • Ensure that all registered voters have access to mail ballots that are widely accessible and easily returnable within each district, with convenient drop-off locations.

  • Support a reliable process for voters to easily track their mailed ballots and correct any issues, such as rejection—essential for ensuring every vote counts.

  • Expand community education efforts to reach all voters, including those with disabilities, ensuring they are fully informed to encourage participation.

  • Guarantee all voter information is available in multiple languages to accommodate our diverse communities and ensure that language is not a barrier to participation.

  • Support allowing eligible incarcerated voters to successfully cast their ballots, ensuring their voices are heard.

Mental Healthcare & Healthcare Equity

As someone with loved ones who have experienced mental health challenges, I know the difficulties of navigating an underfunded and inaccessible system.

If elected I will:

Expand Healthcare Access:

  • Support the creation of a Medicaid Buy-In option to provide affordable healthcare for Delawareans who don’t qualify for traditional Medicaid.

  • Ensure more residents receive the care they deserve by closing coverage gaps.

Enhance Substance Abuse Treatment:

  • Revitalize and increase the availability of inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment options.

  • Make life-saving drugs like Narcan more accessible.

  • Address the root causes of addiction through expanded treatment programs.

Comprehensive Mental Health Services:

  • Advocate for mental health services that are accessible to everyone, regardless of income.

  • Secure funding for mental health programs and support initiatives to reduce stigma.

  • Ensure schools, workplaces, and community centers have the resources to promote mental well-being.

Address Disparities and Promote Equity:

  • Tackle disparities in healthcare systems to ensure equitable access for all communities.

  • Work toward a just and equitable public health system where every Delawarean has the opportunity to thrive.

Housing As A Human Right

Safe and affordable housing is a basic human right. Addressing houselessness in Delaware requires a multifaceted approach that tackles both the immediate needs of those experiencing houselessness and the systemic inequities that have led us here.

To address this growing crisis, I fight for the following legislative initiatives:

Expanding Affordable Housing:

  • I will champion legislation that incentivizes the development of affordable housing units throughout the state. This includes prioritizing grants to developers committed to building affordable housing. Additionally, I would push for zoning reforms to facilitate the construction of multi-family housing and affordable units, particularly in communities that have historically been underserved.

Strengthening Rental Assistance Programs:

  • To prevent more families from becoming homeless, I will support legislation that increases funding for rental assistance programs like the Delaware State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP). Expanding access to these programs is essential in helping low-income residents stay in their homes during financial difficulties.

Supportive Housing Initiatives:

  • Houselessness often intersects with mental health and substance abuse challenges. I will propose legislation to expand supportive housing initiatives that combine affordable housing with wraparound services such as mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and job training.

Addressing Evictions:

  • I will advocate for stronger tenant protections, including legislation that provides for eviction diversion programs and legal assistance for tenants facing eviction. Preventing unnecessary evictions is key to reducing homelessness, especially among those facing temporary financial setbacks.

Job Training and Employment Programs:

  • Economic stability is a vital part of preventing and ending houselessness. I will propose initiatives that provide job training, education, and employment services tailored to the needs of the houseless population.

Education For All

I am committed to transforming our education system to ensure every child, no matter their background, receives a high-quality education.

I will:

Enact Universal Pre-K:

  • Every child deserves a strong start in life. I will fight to establish universal Pre-K across Delaware, ensuring that all children have access to early learning opportunities that build a foundation for lifelong success.

Support Our Teachers:

  • Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and they deserve our unwavering support. I am committed to increasing funding for professional development, raising salaries, and improving classroom resources. When we invest in our educators, we directly enhance the quality of education for our students.

Eliminate Punitive Disciplinary Practices:

  • In our classrooms, particularly for Black girls, discrimination and the criminalization of minor infractions are formidable barriers to learning. I will advocate for comprehensive reforms to eliminate discriminatory practices and reduce criminalization in our schools. This includes implementing restorative justice practices, providing anti-bias training for educators, and ensuring equitable access to support services.

Update Our Outdated Funding Model and Address Disparities:

  • The stark disparities between school districts are unacceptable. Our current funding model relies heavily on local property taxes, exacerbating inequalities. I will push for a comprehensive reform that includes increased federal and state funding to ensure a more equitable distribution of resources. By reallocating resources and implementing fair funding strategies, we can provide all students with the opportunities they deserve, regardless of their zip code.

Provide Extra Funding for Vulnerable Students:

  • Equity in education means providing additional support where it’s needed most. I will advocate for increased funding for low-income students, English-language learners, and students with disabilities to ensure they have the resources and opportunities to thrive.

Increase Support for Higher Education and Trade Schools:

  • Every young person deserves a pathway to a successful career, whether through college or a trade school. I will push for increased financial aid, scholarships, and support services to help more young people in our state gain access to and afford higher education or vocational training.

Reproductive Justice

Every individual must have the autonomy, resources, and support they need to make informed decisions about their own bodies. Reproductive justice is about more than just access to healthcare—it’s about addressing systemic inequalities and ensuring that everyone can live a healthy life.

I will:

Protect and Expand Reproductive Choices:

  • The government has a critical role in protecting and expanding reproductive choices. I will advocate for policies that ensure access to safe and legal abortion services, recognizing that every individual has the right to decide if, when, and how to have a family. This includes resisting any attempts to roll back these fundamental rights and expanding access to comprehensive healthcare.

Ensure Universal Coverage for Reproductive Healthcare:

  • Access to reproductive healthcare should not depend on one’s income or zip code. I support universal coverage for all forms of contraception, prenatal care, and childbirth services, ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they need without financial barriers.

Address Systemic Inequalities Through Reproductive Justice:

  • Reproductive justice requires us to confront the systemic inequalities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities. This means advocating for policies that address these disparities, including paid family leave, affordable childcare, and comprehensive health education.

Guarantee Privacy and Autonomy in Reproductive Decisions:

  • Every individual deserves the right to privacy and autonomy when making reproductive choices. I will work to ensure that state policies protect these rights, supporting legislation that upholds privacy and confidentiality in healthcare and resists efforts to restrict personal reproductive decisions.

Promote Comprehensive Health Education:

  • Knowledge is power, and comprehensive health education is a cornerstone of reproductive justice. I will advocate for inclusive, evidence-based health education in our schools that covers all aspects of reproductive health, including contraception, consent, and safe sexual practices.

Support Families with Paid Leave and Childcare:

  • Reproductive justice also means supporting families after childbirth. I am committed to advocating for paid family leave policies that allow parents to bond with their newborns without the fear of financial insecurity. Additionally, I will push for affordable, accessible childcare to support working families and help children thrive from the start.

Criminal Justice Reform

It’s time we build a system that is truly just and equitable, one that prioritizes rehabilitation over punishment and provides real opportunities for everyone to thrive.

We must:

End Mass Incarceration:

  • We must end the era of mass incarceration that has devastated communities, particularly communities of color and low-income individuals. I support eliminating mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent offenses, which have disproportionately impacted marginalized communities, and promoting alternatives to incarceration, such as diversion programs and restorative justice practices.

Reform Sentencing Guidelines:

  • To address the racial and economic disparities in our criminal justice system, we need to reform our sentencing guidelines. This includes eliminating mandatory minimums for non-violent offenses, providing judges with greater discretion to consider the unique circumstances of each case, and promoting sentencing alternatives that focus on rehabilitation and community service rather than imprisonment.

Overhaul Probation Practices:

  • Probation should be a pathway to rehabilitation, not a trap door back into the prison system. I advocate for reforms that reduce the likelihood of re-incarceration for technical violations, such as missing a meeting or failing to pay fines, and ensure probation terms are fair, proportional, and tailored to the individual's circumstances.

Expand Re-Entry Programs:

  • Successful reintegration into society is crucial for reducing recidivism. I support expanding access to comprehensive re-entry programs that provide job training, education, mental health services, and housing assistance. These programs must be designed to meet the unique needs of returning individuals, offering them the tools, support, and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.

Invest in Community-Based Alternatives to Incarceration:

  • Community-based alternatives, such as diversion programs and restorative justice practices, are essential to reducing reliance on incarceration. These alternatives prioritize rehabilitation, accountability, and community engagement, offering a more humane and effective response to crime. I believe in investing in programs that keep people connected to their communities and focus on healing rather than punishment.

Support Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment:

  • Many individuals within the criminal justice system struggle with mental health and substance use disorders. I am committed to ensuring that individuals receive the support they need through access to comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment programs.

End the Criminalization of Poverty:

  • Too often, our criminal justice system punishes people simply for being poor. I will fight to end practices that criminalize poverty, such as cash bail, excessive court fees, and fines.

Promote Police Accountability and Transparency:

  • Building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve is essential for public safety. I advocate for increased transparency and accountability measures for police officers, including the use of body cameras, independent investigations of police misconduct, and enhanced training in de-escalation and bias prevention.

Create a Fairer Justice System for All:

  • Justice should be equitable, and we must dismantle the systems that perpetuate inequality. I will work tirelessly to create a fairer justice system that is rooted in equity, compassion, and accountability. Together, we can build a community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Fighting For A Just Economy & Workers' Rights

Our communities thrive when everyone has a fair chance to succeed, and my platform is centered around creating an economy that works for all.

If elected, I will:

Expand Paid Family and Medical Leave:

  • No one should have to choose between their job and caring for their health or loved ones. I will advocate for expanding paid family and medical leave so that all workers have the flexibility to take care of themselves and their families without sacrificing their livelihoods.

Strengthen Labor Rights and Protect Safe Working Conditions:

  • I am dedicated to strengthening labor rights, including protecting the right to unionize and advocating for safe, fair working conditions for all. Workers deserve a seat at the table and the right to negotiate for better wages, benefits, and workplace protections.

Promote Fair Scheduling and Workplace Stability:

  • We deserve stability and predictability in their work schedules. I will advocate for fair scheduling practices that provide workers with adequate notice of their shifts and prohibit last-minute changes that disrupt their lives. This is especially important for hourly and part-time workers who often face unpredictable schedules that make it difficult to plan for childcare, education, or second jobs.

Close the Income Gap with Progressive Policies:

  • To address the growing income inequality, I support progressive taxation and targeted investments in programs that uplift low- and middle-income families. By ensuring the wealthiest pay their fair share, we can invest in essential public services and reduce economic disparities.

Support Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs:

  • Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, especially those owned by women and people of color. I will advocate for policies that provide access to capital, grants, and technical assistance to support the growth and sustainability of small businesses.

Combat Workplace Discrimination and Harassment:

  • Everyone deserves a workplace free from discrimination and harassment. I will advocate for stronger laws and enforcement to combat workplace discrimination, particularly for women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities.

Protect Gig and Part-Time Workers:

  • The evolving job market has left many gig and part-time workers without essential benefits. I will work to expand access to healthcare, retirement savings, and other benefits for all workers, ensuring economic security regardless of employment type.

Invest in Modern, Sustainable Infrastructure:

  • Our community’s economic health depends on robust and sustainable infrastructure. I will push for investments in modernizing our roads, bridges, and public transit, and incorporating green building practices to improve energy efficiency. This also includes implementing flood management systems to protect our communities from extreme weather events.

Expand Education and Job Training Programs:

  • I believe in investing in education and job training programs that equip workers with the skills needed for today’s evolving job market. By expanding access to vocational training, apprenticeships, and continuing education, we ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Environmental Justice & Building a Green Delaware

I am committed to building a Green Delaware that prioritizes clean energy, environmental health, and community-driven solutions.

If elected, I will:

Transition to 100% Renewable Energy:

  • The climate crisis demands urgent action. I am committed to transitioning Delaware to 100% renewable energy by investing in solar, wind, and other clean energy sources.

Reduce Carbon Emissions and Modernize Infrastructure:

  • To safeguard our communities from the impacts of climate change, we must invest in modernizing our infrastructure. This includes upgrading water treatment facilities to ensure clean and safe drinking water, improving flood defenses to protect against extreme weather events, and promoting sustainable urban planning that reduces emissions and enhances resilience.

Strengthen Environmental Protections:

  • I support stronger environmental protections that safeguard our air, water, and natural habitats. This includes stricter pollution controls on industries, reducing toxic emissions, and protecting our wetlands and forests from degradation.

Advance Environmental Justice:

  • Environmental justice is at the heart of my platform. I will fight for policies that address the disproportionate impact of environmental degradation on low-income communities and communities of color. This means ensuring equitable access to clean air, water, and green spaces, and actively involving these communities in decision-making processes. I believe the best solutions come from those who are most affected, and I will advocate for community-led planning processes that empower residents to develop strategies to protect and manage their local environments.

Promote Sustainable Development:

  • Economic growth and environmental stewardship are not mutually exclusive. I support sustainable development practices that foster economic growth while preserving our natural resources. This includes advocating for green building standards, promoting energy-efficient transportation, and supporting responsible land use policies that protect our open spaces and biodiversity.

Community-Led Resilience Planning:

  • I am committed to fostering community resilience through collaborative planning. By creating local resilience hubs, we can provide resources, education, and emergency response capabilities tailored to the unique needs of each community. I will work to ensure that communities most impacted by environmental hazards have a voice in the decision-making processes and the tools they need to build a safer, healthier future.

Invest in Green Jobs and Workforce Development:

  • A Green Delaware is one that provides economic opportunities for all. I will champion investments in green jobs and workforce development programs that train Delawareans for careers in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation.

Protect Public Health and Natural Resources:

  • Environmental health is public health. I will fight for comprehensive policies that protect our communities from environmental hazards, such as lead contamination, air pollution, and unsafe drinking water. This includes advocating for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations and ensuring that polluters are held accountable.

Let us work together to make our district's future brighter!

As your representative, I will listen to your concerns, represent your interests, and work tirelessly to make Delaware's 29th District a better place for everyone. Together, we can create a community that values mental health, prioritizes education, promotes road safety, and protects workers' rights. I am requesting your support in this election so that we can work together to achieve these goals.
