Meet Monica

Monica Shockley Porter is a progressive Democrat who understands that the priorities of our state government must shift to better serve all Delawareans. A tireless community advocate for justice, Monica believes deeply in the power of everyday people to effect change. With over 20 years of experience in social services and business development, she has consistently used her skills to uplift and empower our communities.

 

Monica’s commitment to service is evident in her active roles in organizations that make a difference. As a proud sister of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., a leader in her church, and a member of groups such as Network Delaware, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Delaware, Dover (DE) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and Fund for Women Delaware, she has demonstrated a lifelong dedication to improving the lives of those around her.

Her History

Although she moved to Delaware five years ago, her roots run deep in the First State. Her family has lived in Kent and Sussex Counties for over 200 years. Her passionate for advocacy underlies her academic accomplishments as Monica is currently a PhD candidate with a dissertation focused on community organizing. This history and her personal experiences, academic and political, shape Monica’s understanding of the deep-seated challenges and the incredible resilience within her community, coupled with her vision for a better future and her unwavering integrity, make her the ideal candidate to represent District 29 in Dover. She is driven by a profound commitment to justice and equity, and she’s ready to bring her passion, experience, and leadership to the State House to create meaningful change for all Delawareans.
